If over time a thatch layer becomes too thick, water, air and fertilizer can no longer easily reach the bottom. This thick thatch layer also reduces the effectiveness of pesticides and forms a habitat for pests. Because the water can no longer be properly absorbed by the soil, it remains in the thatch layer. As a result, the water evaporates faster and the soil dries out quickly. In these cases, verti-cutting  offers a  great solution. It removes the excess felt and lets the grass breathe again.
